The Castle At Lorca
With the weather uncharateristically murky, we drove for an hour and a half or so through heavy rain to Lorca, which was once a fortress on the border between the Moorish and Christian world.
The castle here sits high above the town, commanding views on all sides towards the distant sierras. Following an earthquake a few years ago, the castle has been beautifully restored and is well worth a visit if ever you're in the area.
Despite rumbles of thunder, we were able to visit in the dry, before heading in to the Sierra de Espuna for lunch at the Santa Eulalia monastery. Unfortunately, the rain set in again so we cancelled a planned walk and headed back to prepare for an excellent 5 course at a local Spanish restaurant.
