Conversation club
I realised to my horror today that I haven't blipped for 3 days! Fortunately I did take photos for some of that time so I'll have to back blip what I've got. This is the English conversation club I teach in a hotel bar on a Wednesday night. I basically just manage the discussion and think of a theme to discuss. This week the theme was personality. They were all in teams on little tables and while one person on each team closed their eyes, I showed the others a word relating to your character, which they then had to describe without using the word to the person with their eyes closed. The first person to guess the word correctly gets a point. The hardest turned out to be boastful. After this I got them to describe what they are like as a person and we talked about things like "can you choose to actively change your personality?" And "what is the difference between your soul and your personality?". This is interesting because the words soul and personality are largely synonyms in Russian. Most of them said there was no difference so then me and the American guy who comes, explained how we almost never use the word soul because it sounds so over the top, and told them about the George Bush "I have looked into his eyes and seen his soul" speech about Putin and how it was ridiculed in the west.
