Deliberately Wrong
We all know a stopped clock tells the right time twice a day. But what about a public clock that is never right?
A puff of smoke from the battlements of Edinburgh Castle in the middle of the picture shows that the one o'clock gun has just gone off. But the clock on the Balmoral Hotel on the right of the picture clearly shows 1:03pm. It is all explained by the long-established tradition that the clock on the Balmoral - formerly the North British railway hotel - is deliberately set three minutes fast to give passengers just that little bit more time to catch their train at Waverley.
