Timbuktu
I just had to see Timbuktu at the Barbican cinema. It has had rave reviews. Yes, it was very good but also depressing to see the oppression of an easy going Islamic city by Fundamentalist police. 80 lashes for singing with friends in a house. Arrested for carrying a football. Stoned to death for adultery. While all this was going on the local immam was trying to preach tolerance and peace to the jihadis who weren't having any of it. And yet it was beautiful to watch. In parts.
On the way there I watched the evening sun on the Barbican flats. I love the shapes of these buildings. Some people hate them. But I think its a fab environment, although despite being in the City it would be quite a walk to buy a pint of milk.
And then home for baked beans on toast.
