Last Light Over The Two Thumb Range
This evening I went for a drive up the Rangitata Gorge Road once more, partly to check out the snow levels for a ski-mad friend, partly to see the sun dip below the mountains at the far end of the Rangitata, beyond Mesopotamia Station.
This is the scene from Whiterock, just before the road descends down to the river flats beyond the Waikari Hills. I love the softness of the snow line on the flanks of Harper Range on the right hand side of the image, as well as the ribbons of gold of the braided Rangitata.
It's evenings like this that I realise what an amazing backyard we have. Just stunning.
In the extras is a shot of the Coal Hill cattle yards, at the top of the hill before Whiterock, looking out towards the distant Arrowsmith range beyond Lake Heron.
