Caerphilly Castle Moat Stars

I worked a night shift which was really enjoyable. My first for many months. After my first call I had about half an hour to kill before doing the next scheduled one, so headed to Caerphilly Castle.

The side of the castle and moat were colourfully lit and caught splendidly on the moat. It was a beautifully clear night and the stars were clear. There was quite a bit of light pollution but I have managed to reduce it.

Caerphilly Castle was constructed between 1268 and 127. It is a medieval fortification in caerphilly in South Wales. The castle was ordered by Gilbert De Clare as part of his campaign to conquer Glamorgan, and saw extensive fighting between Gilbert and his descendants and the native Welsh rulers. Surrounded by extensive artificial lakes – considered by historian Allen Brown to be "the most elaborate water defences in all Britain" – it occupies around 30 acres  and is the second largest castle in Britain. It is famous for having introduced concentric castle defences to Britain and for its large gatehouses.

In the late 15th century, however, it fell into decline and by the 16th century the lakes had drained away and the walls were robbed of their stone. The Marquess of Bute acquired the property in 1776 and under the third and fourth marquesses extensive restoration took place. In 1950 the castle and grounds were given to the state and the water defences were re-flooded

I didn't notice until I'd downloaded the pictures, but in this frame I have captured a shooting star. That's always a bonus!
