Anatidae Cygnus
A tragedy on Loch Tay. Our resident swans at the west end of Loch Tay were caught out by a recent spell of bad weather
Despite being built high above the water level, several days of rain caused their nest to be inundated. I kayaked by the location on Saturday morning and was saddened to see the pen forlornly trying to raise the nest but the little bits of weed and grass she was adding to the structure seemed futile at the time. I went back today ( in glorious weather) only to find the nest abandoned. Two solitary eggs remained and then I noticed a third egg. It was lying under water ( a cold 6 degrees) and that's the egg in the photograph. Very very sad….
