Mother swan
Last day at my university course today. Final presentation seemed to go well (we have to wait a few weeks to see if we've passed) but I was just happy it was finished as it was a lot of work to do on top of a full time job!
Afterwards it was wonderful weather! I love seeing blue skies :)
I met my husband and we went to Mark Toney's on Percy Street for an ice-cream. We got it to takeaway and sat on the grass in the sun in front of the civic centre (I like to sit next to my favourite building!) Afterwards we went to the Exhibition Park. I hadn't visited fir a while and it was lovely to see how great its looking after its £3million regeneration. They've opened a nice new cafe and have painted the previously closed down military vehicle museum. The gardens and flowers are looking great too. At the pond we saw this beautiful swan with her cygnet.
The exhibition park is interesting as combined with the town moor, it is open grassland over double the size of London Hyde park. Not many expect such greenery in central Newcastle. The park was opened for the Jubilee exhibition in 1887 and still has the bandstand from this time. The north east coast exhibition was then held in the park in 1929. The pavilion that stands by the pond and until recently contained the military vehicle museum is from that time. The original science museum was here in the park but later moved to the site at the Discovery museum. The discovery museum has lots of photos from the north east coast exhibition so it is very interesting to visit.
After admiring the park we has a wander around Jesmond enjoying the warm weather that had finally arrived.
