Bombus pratorum . . . . .

. . . . aka: the early bumblebee.

We arrived home to be greeted by a host of these little girls feeding of the Ceanothus in our garden. They’re unusually late to make an appearance being the first significant sightings we’ve had of bumbles this year. They’re normally in our garden by the end of April but are only around for a short while, usually disappearing by the end of July.

I have just posted the pictures from the holiday, after the first day, the internet connection was so slow as to make it impossible to do anything useful; even checking mail was “iffy.”
