Ups and downs .. and ups again ..
I went to pick up mum this afternoon. I was kind of dreading it and when I got there they told me she'd been very odd and quite down and that she'd refused to take her tablets and she'd been very difficult (all this before I actually saw her, as I don't like her to know I'm there before I'm ready to leave)
They also said she was even claiming she was a pharmacist (she was).
Note to carers of dementia sufferers and old people in general - they DID actually have lives and talents - don't automatically assume they're fabricating everything they say.
Mum was thrilled to see me - she even remembered my name pretty quickly. She was happy for the entire drive home. Happy to drink hot chocolate and have scrambled eggs and mushrooms on toast for tea.
She was even amenable to having a shower before bedtime (I can't bear the smell of care home on her and have to wash all the clean clothes she comes home with straight away ..)
All was well until half way through the shower when she began sobbing and sobbing ... which continued until she was dried and changed and put into bed.
She sobbed some more but was eventually distracted by my looming bosom of all things, as I leant over to talk to her!!
However - two hours later I heard her up and about - she'd just popped to the loo, knew it wasn't time to get up and happily went back to bed.
I'm not holding my breath though - there's plenty of time for another dip before the morning.
Here's Auntie fox trying to relax as her three little charges scamper about.
