The Capital Building

Regarded as one of the city's Art Deco buildings the Capital Building dates from 1938/40, built by L Grahame Thomson and Frank J Connell for the Caledonian Insurance Company, later occupied by the Guardian Royal Exchange.

A striking decoration above the entrance is a pair of bronze statues: on the left a father and daughter, representing 'Safety', on the right a mother with a son and a babe in arms, representing 'Security', cast by George Mancini, a pupil of the sculptor, Alexander Carrick.
