Martial Maneuvers

Take a look at that first extra photo, showing a sextet of Canada geese in the Padden Lagoon, gliding peacefully in the morning light. "Lovely!" I thought to myself as I took a series of photos of that scene, "and Freespiral, Blipfoto's Queen of Reflections, will enjoy this."

A couple of minutes later, the geese made a sudden turn and headed at top speed for the shore, necks stretched out, loudly honking---clearly angry. Apparently they'd taken a dislike to another small group of Canada geese near the shore, and a battle ensued between rival "gang leaders," as seen above. 

The vanquished male was driven off to the sound of derisory comments from the winner and his pals, and peace returned for a few minutes, before a smaller, similar skirmish took place. It paled by comparison with this one, and I'd had more than enough bellicosity for today!
