Inside the Alcazar Genil Palace

Alcazar Genil is a small beautiful palace in Granada. It is not the Alhambra, of course, but it is also worth a visit.
It was a summer residence for important people during the 13th and 14th centuries. The Palace is said to have had beautiful gardens and even a big pool for water games. It was built in the plains of the River Genil, la Vega de Granada, a fertile fresh area outside the walls of Granada.
Unfortunately now the Palace lies in the middle of horrible blocks of flats in one of the ugliest areas in the city, but nevertheless I strongly recommend a visit.
The entrance is free, it is open every day and it is also the site of the 'Francisco Ayala' Literary Foundation. He was a well known local writer and that is why  the Palace is also frequently visited by scholars and students who are interested in this writer's life.
