COWS!

Another walk today organised by Newcastle City Guides.  This one was called " Park Life".  Around 30 people turned up and we were split into 4 groups.  The starting point was outside St James Park - home of Newcastle United Football Club.  We walked around the outside and learned a lot about the history of the ground and football club..  Then we walked into Leazes Park - a lovely space with a lake and a bandstand.  It used to be quite run down but lottery money was spent on tidying it up and making it a nice place to spend time. Weather was sunny and warm-ish and there were lots of folk enjoying themselves in the park.

The Park leads on to The Town Moor which is a large area of common land.  It is larger than Hyde Park and Hampstead Heath combined - and larger the Central Park in New York.  Freemen of the City have the right to graze cattle on the land and they allow farmers put their cows there for a small fee.  You can see a few cows in my blip shot.  The Hoppings - said to be the largest traveling funfair in Europe, is held on the Town Moor during the last week  of June.  ( It always seems to rain that week and the place turns into a muddy mess )

The walk lasted around 2 hours.  I popped into Waitrose just before it closed at 5pm and then got the bus home.  Neil was here when I got in.

The phone rang not long after I got home - it was Becky wishing me  Happy Birthday .  Actually she and Mike sang " Happy Birthday " - how nice.  Today I am   ?   years old.  If you want to know how old click HERE
