On the road

Early start this morning to get back to Calais and get on the boat home. The drive was good and I really have to compliment the French on their roads. With the distance we travelled we didn't get stuck in a single bit of traffic, there or back. The best bit is that the speed on the motorways is 130kmh/80mph so we covered large distances in no time at all.

We arrived at Calais an hour early than we needed too and they put us on an earlier boat which was handy. There was no waiting around and we pretty much drove straight on. Once onboard we got comfy and had some lunch whilst the English Channel passed by underneath.

The traffic once back on English soil however was a complete nightmare! Every way we turned we got stuck in jams. We took detours only to rejoin the jam further up the road. It was a very frustrating 4 hours (which should have only taken 2!) the children were brilliant though and didn't make a fuss.

What a fab holiday! I'm glad to be home but I do miss our little caravan in the middle of the Normandy countryside. Special family time making memories together.
