Shale Fossil

At the summit of Greendykes Bing, watching my feet as we were turning to descend, my eye fell upon this piece of shale with an interesting pattern. Our guide, Barbra, was astonished as it is extremely rare to find fossils there and was pleased when I gave her the mirror image. I hope she remembers to let me know if she finds an identification.

On Thursday's outing I was lucky enough to notice a gold ring on the ground by our feet as we listened to our guide at the Susanna mine on the Limekilns estate -  it belonged to one of our party, having fallen off unnoticed as she removed her gloves.
