"My, the sloths are active today"

As said to me today by one of the keepers in the Rain Forest Enclosure at London Zoo.

I'm here with one of the press officers on a recce for a shoot on Tuesday.

I'm going to be photographing three BBC executives on the rain forest floor, hopefully surrounded with marmosets.

I'm glad I came because I have to rethink my proposed lighting technique. I don't know whether you know this, but most animals can't see flash. The duration of the light burst is too small to register in their brains.

I tend to assume that all animals are the same, however primates are very closely related to us and can see more powerful flashes. Therefore using studio lights down there is out of the question.

Just as well really as I don't fancy cleaning up the monkey poo later.
