Fishy in Argyll
There's a reeking stench that's wafting across Scotland and choking the nostrils of all decent people.
The dereliction of democracy that is being practiced by Argylll and Bute Council is a national disgrace. Bulling of elected representatives and of council officers who dare to speak out is unacceptable and must be stopped.
It's a very sad case of the leaders of the council operating in their own interests and not those of the citizens they are supposed to represent. As a result there are a lot of very angry people there now.
I was in Oban for the first meeting of The People's Council, which has been formed with a view to changing the way we do local democracy in Scotland. Our "Feudal Democracy" where the top layer passes on what powers and responsibilities to the next is broken. So broken that the complete breakdown of accountability that is blighting Argyll is seen as just one of those things.
One of those things no more. The grassroots are mobilising and will be tackling their council locally, while moves are now afoot to get real structural change across the country.
We've had enough.
