Flogging It

Spent the day in Honiton where some of Tess's Mum's jewellery was being auctioned.

This was the first time we've been to an auction in a good many years and it was fascinating to watch the auctioneer and his team at work, juggling bids on the room, the internet and the phone.

Here he is grabbing a quick drink. He had been selling for 3 hours and was only about half way through the 800 or so lots on the catalogue when we left.

We were pleasantly surprised by how well our items sold; one lot went for about ten times the original estimate, as they discovered a particularly interesting item amongst a lot of costume jewellery which attracted a fair bit of competitive bidding.

Because of the poor lighting in the auction room and the fact we were near the back ( and possibly my hands shaking with the surprise!) the two shots I took with my little camera were really grainy, so I've tried to disguise it with a bit of antique-style processing!
