Salterhebble

This morning, instead of going to that part of the canal we so often go to, we decided to drive a bit further to the Salterhebble Baisin where we'd see something different and have a choice of towpath.  As ever we were there before anyone else which was a good thing as there isn't much car parking, but as the towpaths are part of the Kirklees Greenway they are all clean and well maintained. I didn't see the same wildlife on this stretch, but all the same it's a great place to enjoy fresh air and a good walk.

The Calder & Hebble Navigation has a short branch at Salterhebble, usually called the Salterhebble Arm. This branch terminates at Salterhebble Basin, and at the point where the branch leaves the main line is the triple flight of Salterhebble Locks, one of which claims to be the shortest lock on the connected inland waterway system of Britain.
