Gunpowder magazine
Time for a breezy walk by the walls in Berwick before starting at Job No. 2 - passed the gunpowder magazine en route.
It was built around 1750 to store the gunpowder needed by Berwick Garrison. The building has very thick walls designed to withstand attack and accidental explosion (apparently a single spark from a soldier's boots could have caused one!). Slots in the walls and a raised floor allowed for a flow of air, to keep the interior dry and prevent the gunpowder from becoming damp.
