Penstock above Kentra Bay

Still trying to catch up after our dreadful start to this survey on Monday morning so scratching about for a decent image (or rather time to take one) so this is one of my work record photos.
This is the old penstock (penstock is simply pressurised pipeline) leading from the wee loch down to the mothballed power house. Engineering constraints dictated by the available materials of the time mean that it would have been very difficult to design and build this pipe line. Modern plastic pipe can withstand up to 16 bar (160m of head) so new small schemes can often avoid going to ductile iron at all). The pipe pictured is actually GRP and is a second generation refurbishment of the original. It bears evidence of many patches and running repairs. I'm not sure -or can't say -what the bigger picture might be for this one.
Anyway; it was another nice day to be in the hills.
