...for pink peppercorns.
Yes the very ones pinking up mixed peppercorn colours destined for the peppermill.
On the walk to Saturday's lunch restaurant, S pointed out a feathery leaf tree dripping with clusters of pink berries. This the Peruvian pepper tree Schinus molle the fruit of which are harvested and sold as pink peppercorns...no relation to 'real' pepper, Piper nigrum (from which black, white and green peppercorns are produced).
These ones foraged from a car park tree here in the hills.
The tree here in Aus and other parts of the world is considered a pest.
Apparently a potential pest too for those with nut allergens as it is one of the Amacardiacea family which include cashews,poison ivy, mangoes, sumac and pistachio.
