Fish Supper
As I am still at Chanonry Point todays image is another of the Bottelnose Dolphins, this time with a salmon. Although it looks as though the dolphin is just catching the fish it is actually regurgitating it! I had previously seen photos of dolphin with salmon and assumed it was about to swallow the fish but when you watch them the dolphin actually spits it back out so as to realign it and to make sure it slides down smoothly. The fish is spat in to the water and immediately recaught., As the fish is pointing towards the dolphin it swims that way and the dolphin recatches it. Apparently they have to be gentle enough that they don't break the fish as the sharp bones would do more damage, and some dolphins are more inclined to this behaviour than others. I had come here hoping to see this but not really expecting to so this I particularly enjoyed both watching and photographing this behaviour.
