A Fine Day Out

Took advantage of a bit of blue sky to go for a drive in Angus.  A wrong turning took us first to Aberlemno, where I took the extra shot of the huge standing stone and another of Melgund Castle (new to us), before heading back to Forfar and a spot of lunch at the Golf Driving Range.

Then it was back on the right road to reach my intended destination, Murton Nature Reserve. It's a couple of years since I was last there and the newly planted trees seen then have grown considerably and it has the makings of a really good nature reserve.  The main photo shows one of the smaller lochs, enhanced by the glorious swathes of broom round its banks.

Among the many birds we saw were ringed plovers, shelducks and a black-headed gull which had nested on a platform built by the loch.  Not the safest place to nest, as she was vulnerable to attack by other birds, as my rather blurred photo shows here. However, she stayed put and the intruder eventually gave up.

There was a biting wind when out of the sun, so we didn't stay too long today, but will go again when it warms up:-)
