Carob seed pods

These seed pods, about 15 cm long, belong to a Spanish Algarroba tree....or a Carob tree. The pods are used as fodder for pigs and donkeys.....but the dark brown seeds inside can be used for chocolate making, especially diabetic chocolate.

The trees are drought resistant, can grow quite high, and have large spreading branches, which provide wonderful shade.....and we were grateful for that today!
