Edinburgh Zoo is running a set of "Zoo Nights" events. The park is open late, for adults only, and there are bars, and discos, and entertainments. Everywhere you're used to steering your children away from (i.e. food/ice-cream/popcorn stalls) are all selling beers, wines and Edinburgh Gin at decent prices.

It's utterly brilliant.

I'm a family man, but being in a place designed for children, but that has no children in it is a tremendously liberating experience. One member of our party even got his face painted! (Albeit with a BMW logo)

And the light being thrown by the low sun (caused by the late hour) was incredible. A day of epic showers - including peppercorn-sized hailstones in May - had cleared the sky. It was cold, sure, but the light was awesome.

It totally set off the vivid red of these Scarlet Ibises.

If you're anywhere near Edinburgh over the next four weekends, you should get yourself there.
