Commemoration
Today I walked half way up Canigou but it was a very different walk than usual. We went up with Jeff and his three sons, wives, girlfriend and baby to scatter the ashes of Catherine who lost her battle with cancer last year. She was an excellent tower and handbell bell ringer along with Jeff and his sons. This location, with its marvellous view over Vernet and its monument to the sacrifice of the French resistance in a wartime battle near this spot, was her choice of final resting place. Jeff brought the handbells and they rang a couple of methods in her memory. David, the vicar, walked up as well to say a few words of prayer and reflection. It was an entirely appropriate and moving occasion and I felt privileged that Jeff asked me along.
