JVM my life

Walked off our feet

Today after we had actually done some prior preparation and reading we set off to properly discover Prague - we started off at the old Town square to see the astronomical clock strike the hour and also identify all the different buildings around the square. The gothic Church of Our Lady before Tyn was particularly dominating along with the imposing statue of Jan Hus

We walked over to the Charles bridge, it is pretty breath taking with all the statues dominating over the passers by. A quick detour ensued through Kampa Park to get away from the crowds and we came across the Kampa Modern art museum. I was particularly attracted by the sculptures my favourite form of artwork. Two things stayed in my mind the writing across the entrance "If a nations culture survives then so too does the nation" and Otto Grutfreund's sculpture depicting anxiety. We found a great spot for lunch and a Pilsner looking out onto the Vltava.

In the afternoon we started the long climb to Prague Castle via St. Nicholas's church. It was a hot day and hard work however it was definitely worth it when reaching the top. St. Vitus's gothic Cathedral was mind blowing an amazing feat of architecture - I normally spend so much time thinking of science it is so good to put my mind to other thoughts. History and the relationship between the church, religion, power and dominance is so thought provoking - how much has it really changed throughout the ages. We went into the Palace rooms and finished off in Golden Lane

By now my feet were aching but we needed to get back home, not sure how I managed it. After a quick rest was tempted out for noodles to finish a lovely day
