Enemy at the gates

This was the first day since my mother's death that we had time to stop,  go out for a walk and just try to relax.

North Belfast was once a byword for murder and mayhem in the chaos that is now referred to as "The Troubles".  Alexandra Park lies in that area of the city and has the dubious honour of being the only park in Europe believed to be partitioned with a "peace wall" to keep opposing religious factions apart.  This young lad had scaled his side of the fence (a section that does not have razor wire) and was looking quizically at the other side.  He didn't look pleased to be photographed, but nothing came of it.

I have only been to one other partitioned park in the world and that was in here (in Tehran) where the divide was designed to keep men and women apart.

Mmm ... religion has much to answer for.
