Come Dancing

Well here is an odd thing.

Discussing a knotty issue yesterday, my colleague was bemoaning the way modern business works, and contrasting this with - taking an example - the owner of the Grand Palais in Swinton, who has spent a long time and his own effort doing up a building which is much loved by the community and not focussing on making as much of a buck as he can.

I have had the usual busy day, but escaped for a 15 minute walk around the block over lunchtime. And - a sign outside the Palais advertised that it was open for a tea dance so I wandered in (which would not have occurred to me prior to yesterday's conversation, and a thought to a blip).

It was a parallel universe to the world outside. Lovingly done up, it is a fine building and has a Tardis like interior. Opened as the Plaza Picture House in 1912, it's current use as a centre for dance is clearly working. £2.50 for a cup of tea and a dance, I explained that no, I didn't have time for a dance. Not my usual lunchtime experience !
