A long way off

Why do I see these things when they are so far away and I don't have my proper camera? I was out for a walk by the river and stopped for a while beside the Castle - the spot I want my ashes scattered when it's time - and looked out across the water. Without binoculars to hand, I was glad I spotted them anyway, over on the other bank of the estuary. First two, and then four more, making their way out towards the open sea. This was the best shot I managed. Hard not to see a poignancy in this beautiful and sociable wild creature, leaping out of the water apparently for fun, before heading out to sea. The scientist in me knows it is merely coincidence that they should appear then, when I was watching. The reader, and occasional writer, of stories would like to think differently.
