Creeping death
I regularly pass this very sad Cyprus tree and have watched it slowly dying. It is sad for such a majestic tree.
If you take a look in large you can see the green in the lower branches with small patches of dry, as the beetles or weevils gradually kill the tree.
"Conifers can be attacked by a number of pests. Cypress bark beetle causes the top foliage and branches to die as the adults bore down the small twigs.
The Cypress bark weevil causes the leaves to loose colour and the branches die back. When the adult emerges it chews a hole in the truck. The weevils are about 20 mm long and dull grey to dark brown."
Whichever pest is causing this problem, the tree is suffering a slow death.
