How peculiar. It seems that lots of other people decided to travel north from Birmingham at about 3:30pm on a bank holiday Friday. Who'd a thunk it, eh? Thought everyone else would have had to stay at work until at least 5pm...

So this was my view for several hours as we sedately progressed to the lake district...
