Australian White-backed Magpie

There are a lot of these around. At about 40 cm long they are quite big birds. They are birds with a lot of character, and people love them. I don’t. They are the bullies of the bird world, snatching food and treating the nests of small birds as takeaway bars.

I had to go to Christchurch to get a warrant of fitness for my car. It passed with no trouble. I did very little shopping, mainly fruit, vegetables and groceries. I stopped at the usual place and this magpie tried to menace me away, but it wasn’t sure about the camera and kept moving away as I approached.
