Banana Blossom

As out of place in the desert as a pig would be in the sky.  I came across a grove of banana plants in full flower at the entrance of a local business that also has a lawn sodded with one of the most water-intensive grasses there is.  But that is as much a picture of the Phoenix-area oasis mentality as anything, including our many ponds and lakes, the world's highest-spouting water fountain, and vivid-green (horribly expensive in many different ways) winter lawns everywhere.
