Shaftesbury Abbey

Today the family split on half for the day to do different things on our holiday. Me, my mum and JustSally travelled to Shaftesbury to visit its abbey. I think we expected an actual abbey rather than a pile of stones and ruins in its place with a museum. However the museum was very good and we learnt alot about the now long gone abbey. We browsed around a few shops in Shaftesbury and found a flea market selling a variety of antiques and collectibles. We had paninis for lunch in a cafe at the top of Gold hill (famous for the Hovis advert) and then did some food shopping ready for our picnic and day out at Longleat tomorrow. This picture depicts a large statue of King Alfred the great which towers of the remains of the abbey and in the background is the Trinity church, which has now be turned into a day centre and scout den!
