Antikythera mechanism
Built more than 2000 years ago, the Antikythera mechanism is a sophisticated astronomical clock with an exquisite cog mechanism - a technology then forgotten in Europe for 1500 years. The remains were found in 1900 in a shipwreck, but the true sophistication of the device was not understood until more than 70 years later.
