Clearin' Da Bank

A mixed day, fairly windy but there has been sunny spells but some showers too. 

Back to work in the museum today and I've been working in the office for the most of the day.  Plenty to catch up with and plenty of photo orders flooded in will I was away on holiday. 
After tea, me and Sammy headed up to the peat hill for a walk and meet up with Uncle John and then passed the Cunningsburgh History Group and mam was there with Hilda Halcrow who had relatives up from south and they were researching family history, a brief chat before heading on my way.
Off to work in the pub tonight again.

The peat hill used to have a buzz of activity when I was a bairn but it seems so lonely nowadays and more so on a cold night like tonight.  However, one man you'll always see in the hill is my Uncle John Halcrow aka John o'Noness as he comes from Noness in Sandwick but lives in Cunningsburgh.  He's married to my aunt Joan, dad's older sister.  He's 66 and still working hard with the peats.  Here he is clearing the bank and getting ready to start casting peats.  He covered up the bank, as it was west facing and trying to keep it from drying out too much, this is his best peats, blue clods.  Taken in the Nort Peat Hill, Cunningsburgh.
