Walnut

After a very cool and cloudy start, with a persistent northerly wind, the cloud gradually cleared and the wind swung to the south, so by the end of the day it was almost hot! Four days of solid walking is taking it's toll - though this time least year I could hardly walk very far at all, so I really mustn't complain! 

Walnut trees are one of the last to come into leaf, and like many other species, the young foliage has high levels of anthocyanins, to protect the delicate tissues against damaging UV levels and maybe insect attack.
