Trans-Canada Highway

Driving across from Lake Louise to Calgary today, we passed several of these bridges.

When the road was only a two-lane highway running through the National Park, wildlife were much in danger and many animals were killed on the road. There were protests against widening the road, but agreement was reached to build the highway and the same time fence off the park and provide tunnels under the road for animals to pass from one side to the other in safety. However, the animals didn't like the tunnels and consequently didn't use them.
So these bridges were built in place of the tunnels and research shows that the animals are now happily crossing over. Aaaaaaah.
