We got up reasonably early to head to the Zona Cafetera (coffee region), an 8 hour bus journey away. The bus was surprisingly nice, with wifi and comfy seats (and the usual mish mash of locals to stare at us), and halfway up a random highway the driver let us out and told us to wait for the next collectivo to Salento. After lingering on the roadside for a bit we asked what the deal was in a random little cafe and were told to take a seat. About 20 minutes later the cafe owner ushered us outside and onto a tiny minivan and we managed to hit 90% of the passengers in the face with our massive backpacks. In usual Colombian style, everyone around us was keen to help us figure out where to get out and how to find out hostel in Salento. Once we were settled into Martha Posida Tolima hostel we browsed our travel books for restaurant inspiration and both came to the same realisation that Salento had the one thing we hadn't seen in months; Indian food. Within about 15 minutes we were sat in La Eliana, chatting to the Swiss owner about when he lived in Edinburgh and ordering a couple of jalfrezis and a bottle of wine. Best food in a loooooong time, Salento definitely made a good first nights impression.
