Memorial Day
We have a small parade in our city. The old soldiers march, the Boy Scouts walk, and the local band plays. The parade route goes for about a mile, then the crowd follows the band up into our city cemetery.
Some more old soldiers talk, reciting pieces such as The Gettysburg Address. The highlight for me is always the ending, where a lone soldier on his trumpet plays Taps. Very moving.
The big Bullmastiff Jack was watching the parade. He was missing his right eye. His owners told us that he was a rescue dog, and his old owner used him to fight other dogs. Reprehensible. The big boy seemed to be very happy...as did his owners.
One thing about this breed. They drool...I mean they REALLY drool. I think that part would just drive me nuts.
Many thanks to the men and women who try to keep us safe and free.
