Looking Down on the Town
I had a lie in today, only waking up at 5.30am! Alan checked the TV channels to see if the Monaco Grand Prix was being televised and luckily it was, so we sat in bed and watched it.
Then after breakfast we went on a 'hop on, hop off' open top bus tour of the city, which took us over the Golden Gate Bridge again. This morning the bridge disappeared into the fog, and it was extremely windy, so we had to hold onto our hats!
We then went down to Golden Gate park where we got off the bus to have a walk in the park which is closed off to traffic on Sundays. We went into the flower conservatory which amongst other things, it had some very unusual orchids, and then we went to the Japanese Tea Garden.
We hopped back on the bus which took us through Haight Asbury and we passed the Painted Ladies, City Hall, Union Square and China Town where we decided to get back off and go for a Chinese for lunch.
After lunch we waited for another bus which then took us through North Beach and Little Italy, before dropping us off at Pier 39.
We then decided to walk up some more very steep hills to Coit Tower and took the lift to the observation deck at the top. Fortunately there wasn't much of a queue, and we only had to wait about 15 minutes. It was well worth the walk and the wait as the view was amazing! This shot is taken looking out towards the Bay Bridge, and the triangular building is the Transamerica Pyramid which apparently is built to withstand an earthquake up to 8 on the Richter scale.
We've covered a lot of miles again today and seen so much, but there's still a lot to see! Tomorrow we're hiring a car and heading to Lake Tahoe for 3 nights, so I'd better start packing.
Apologies for my lack of comments, but I've limited wifi only when I'm in the hotel, but I hope you're having a good weekend.
