Power Place

A bit north of the town of Solothurn lies the Verena Gorge with its hermitage and two chapels. The first mention goes back to 1442 and it took some centuries until the year 2009, when the first female hermit moved in. Since 2014 Sr. Benedikta Sigel lives there (standing in front of the chapel entrance) and she was chosen from some 120 people that applied for the hermitage.

Besides the hermitage the Verena Gorge is listed as one of the Power Places of Switzerland with a very high, positive earth radiation of up to 27'000 units on the Bovis scale (following the Bovis theory around 6'500 is considered as normal, less is negative, more is positive, values above 10'000 in the 'ethereal range' and considered as power places).

The reason we were there, is that we have received from my uncle a guided tour around Solothurn with electric bikes. For us it was the first time on such bikes and the whole day was a great success. There is plenty to tell about the city of Solothurn, being the most beautiful baroque town in Switzerland. The magic number of the city is 11 and no wonder our tour was 11 km long, had 11 stops and the average speed was 11 km/h (no joke!). It goes even that far, that one of the clocks has only 11 hours (see extra photo).
