Chippenham Folk festival

I was very surprised at just how many Morris dancers there were! The whole of Chippenham was loud with bells jingling, sticks being smacked together and handkerchiefs being waved in the air. The town had a lovely atmosphere as people dressed in interesting costumes wandered around having fun.

There were opportunities to partake in Morris dancing lessons, but we gave it a miss today. I'd only want to join in if I could get some lovely bells for my shins!

The dancers were all around the town, but also in a big marquee being introduced and explained. So we were able to sit for a while whilst watching 'Sucking the monkey' dance, and 'dancing with Goblins'. Rivetting stuff.
