Fast Sunday

Lydden Hill circuit is a natural amphitheatre, set in the lush Kentish countryside near Canterbury. I spent a very enjoyable day there at the World Rallycross Championship meeting as a guest of Peugeot, who had three team cars competing.

It was a day of fast action, close contact between the cars, lots of sliding around the tight corners, with dust and mud flying up in spectacular style on the rough sections of the course.

Rallycross enjoys growing popularity as a form of motorsport that very entertainingly blends loose surface rallying with hard surface track racing. This is one of the Peugeot team's cars, a 208 WRX Supercar, driven by Swedish rallycross star Timmy Hansen.

Victory today, though, went to the sensationally quick Norwegian Petter Solberg, who won the final race in his Citroen DS3 Supercar.
