Brave New World

I have been watching for young blackbirds, as a pair are nesting in the garden. Today I saw one hovering about on the grass - so confused. It must be bewildering, the first time out of the nest. 

Then I saw dad watching out (see below) - on his favourite lookout post, our gate that needs painting. He does look a bit frazzled doesn't he and no wonder. The pair have been so busy feeding young, watching out and chasing away anything that comes near. We think they are on at least their second brood.
