Tree Peony Ready for its Glory

I have two tree peonies [down from four]  They
put forth astonishingly beautiful blooms, but
the blooms are not long-lasting.  Then, they
are done for another year......A lesson for life,
I do think.....What is long-lasting, and what is
not?
