Upgrade

This is what my Mac has looked like all day today. It asked me if I wanted to upgrade to Yosemite. I said go on then. And then it did a few things and sat thinking for the rest of the day.
I checked online and found lots of people had encountered the same problem. Their answer in the main was to sit it out and wait. But my patience ran out at 10pm and I shut it down, restarted, and after a tense few minutes it seems to be working OK. And it's upgraded. But ... It now tells me that I need to upgrade iPhoto to be able to see my photos. Grrr.
